Routes and Corridors / 01

Where is your cargo going?
Find your freight route here.

Two shipments with similar weight and volume may need different plans because of their origin, final destination, border crossing, port or terminal, equipment and delivery deadline.

Planning principle

Map distance is only one route-selection factor. Commodity, capacity, border and customs conditions, schedules and first and last mile transport also matter. NIKCO.LOG assesses routes against the actual shipment and its operating conditions.

Destinations and freight routes

Start with your destination.

Explore transport options and related routes for each country or region.

Choice logic / 02

Consider the whole chain, not just the distance.

A slightly longer route may be more workable in terms of schedule, capacity, equipment or delivery conditions.

01

Commodity

Dangerous goods, refrigerated cargo, machinery and general freight face different constraints.

02

Weight and dimensions

Weight or dimensions can rule out some vehicles, borders or routes.

03

Delivery time

With a tight deadline, the lowest-cost mode may no longer be suitable.

04

Gateway and capacity

Capacity, network connections, schedules and port or terminal conditions affect the complete plan.

05

Customs and border

A shorter route may be unsuitable because of customs conditions, border waiting or commodity restrictions.

06

First and last mile

The time and cost of reaching the port, airport or terminal are part of the actual transport cost.

Factor 1 of 6

Execution chain / 04

One international shipment, several coordinated stages.

The main leg may be straightforward while transfers between stages have a larger effect on final time and cost.

Route documents

ROUTE FILE / 01

Documents depend on the route and commodity.

Depending on the mode, a CMR road consignment note, ocean bill of lading, air waybill or transit documents may be required.

  • Commercial invoice
  • Packing list
  • Certificate of origin
  • Commodity permits
  • Customs documents
  • Transit documents
Exact documentation is checked before dispatch according to commodity, origin, destination and mode.

Operational status

LIVE REVIEW / 02

No active route has a permanent status.

Operational conditions are checked again for each shipment at the time of enquiry.

  • Border status and regulations
  • Fleet or network capacity
  • Train or vessel schedule
  • Operational restrictions
